Ideas for children at home-

Have a scavenger hunt around the house– for smaller children hide one of their teddies in their room and get them to have a bear hunt. You could make it more difficult for older children maybe give them clues for things to find/ time them against their siblings.

Camping in your back garden– I know one or two of the junior infants have already camped outside with their families

Family board game tournament– using the games at home create a scoreboard for the family and award points to the winners of each of the games

Draw with Rob

Pebble art– Paint or use felt tip markers to design pebbles/ stones. You can write on the stones or paint faces or animals on them

Make your own Play- Doh

2 cups of plain flour

1 cup of salt

1 tablespoon of oil

½ cup of cold water

2 drops of food colouring

Mix the flour and salt then add the water, oil and the food colouring. Knead the mixture then add a little more flour if the consistency is too wet.

Penpals/ postcards– You can keep it within the classroom and the children could send letters or cards to their friends. The infants were learning about the postman before we finished in March.

Potato printing– cut your potato in half and paint the cut half. Use your potato to create beautiful patterns on a page

Make a bird feeder

Shadow drawing– all you need is a sheet of paper and some small objects eg ( toy animals, little dolls) The children place the toy animal down in front of the sheet so that the shadow of the toy is on their page. Trace around the shadow, they can then design the object as they like.

Family tree– This can be a nice activity to complete as it can get children to learn more about where they have come from. (this is a quick video explaining family members and how to begin creating a family tree)
