Novel: Matilda by Roald Dahl
We hope to get the novels out to everybody by 22nd May so we can start reading it on 25th May. We will record ourselves reading each chapter and we will send an email each Sunday night with voice recordings of the chapters for the week. You can play the recording and your child can listen to us reading the chapter while they read along in their books. We would recommend 2 chapters per day. We will also attach comprehension questions – the children will be familiar with these as we completed activities like this for Charlotte’s Web. Your child can answer 2 or 3 questions on each sheet. We will include a voice recording with the answers to each sheet also. Your child can listen to this recording after they answer the questions.
We really enjoy reading novels with the children at school and we will miss doing this face to face but we hope the voice recordings will help your child engage with the novel.
Week One: 18th – 29th May:
We will concentrate on weight in Maths.
We will highlight questions in yellow, based on this topic for you on your IXL profile.
Here are some activities and resources you can work on and use based on weight, again remember this is suggested work, there is no obligation to complete any or all of this.
A fantastic way to learn about weight is to bake! See recipe below for fairy cakes and it also contains questions you can ask your child while baking.
You’ll find below a powerpoint presentation on Weight.
And we have included a number of worksheets also. Many of these worksheets are differentiated so you can start with the easiest sheets and move onto the next sheets if your child is not finding them too difficult.
Week 2: 25th – 29th May
For this week we will concentrate on the topic of Capacity.
We will highlight some capacity based activities in yellow on your IXL profile.
There are some activities and resources below that you can work on based on capacity. Many of these worksheets are differentiated so you can start with the easiest sheets and move onto the next sheets if your child is not finding them too difficult.
We hope the good weather continues and you get lots of fresh air and exercise.
We miss you all so much. Have a great 2 weeks and we hope to hear from you by email. Ms. Kelly and Mrs. Bergin
